University : He passed M.A from University of Calcutta  

Came into Light :His first poem "Ekti Chithi" was published in "Desh" magazine in the year 1951. He became editor in "Agami Sahitya" magazine in the same year. His first short story "Bacha" was published in Ramapada Chowdhury's edited  magazine "Idaning". When his fourth poem "Tumi" was published in "Kabita" magazine in the year 1953, his name came into light, because when this poem was introduced in a book named "Panchis bacherer premer kabita" it was campaigned as "From Rabindranath to Sunil Gangopadhyay" which was very much prestigious to him.  

Profession :After doing graduation with Economics Honours he joined in UNESCO's Adult Education Scheme in the year 1954.After 3 months he resigned the job. Then he joined as Officer's Trainee in New India Assurance Company in the same year. But due to lot of pressure in this training he again resigned and started his career with tuition. In the year 1970 he joined as a sub-editor in "Anandabazar Patrika". At present he is associated with the publication of "Desh" magazine. 

Marriage :He married Swati Bandopadhyay  in 26 th February , 1967. 

Children : His only child Souvik Gangopadhyay  was born in 20 th Nov. 1967. 

Grand Son: Sunil Gangopadhyay became grand father on 4th November 2006 .
